Community Health and Rural Development Programme

putting hope for the deprived through volunteerism

INTRODUCTION OF CHREP Community Health and Rural Development Programme otherwise called CHREP is a non denominational and a Non- governmental organisation operating in the northern region of Ghana. The formation of the organisation became necessitated due to the lower levels of education and health care delivery in the northern parts of Ghana leading to increasingly high maternal and Infant mortality rates and abject poverty. The founders thought it wise to also contribute their quota to bridging the gap between the marginalized north and their endowed southern counterparts. It was no coincidence that the first Prime Minister and President of the Republic of Ghana made education free for all northerners as opposed to their counterparts in the south; just to bridged the same gap. To become legally recognized and be able to collaborate effectively with other stakeholders the organisation became legally registered with the Registrar’s General’s Department on 13th February 2007. This became necessary after three years of operating as a community-based Organisation. The activities of the organisation include; Education, Health care (Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDs etc), Human Rights, Agriculture and Micro finance. The organisation is working in partnership with other stakeholders in the region including the district Assemblies, district health inspectorates and the ministry of food and agriculture and other organizations. The organisation has a main office and district/project station offices. The main office is located in the northern regional capital- Tamale on the Regional Hospital Road, about 100meters ahead of Merica Hotel.
